A1 German – Occupations / Berufe

This lesson introduces common occupations in German. Most profession words are masculine with der and many feminine forms are made by adding -in.

Important Grammar Notes

Feminine forms with -in

Many occupations form the feminine version with:

• -in

Examples:

• Lehrer → Lehrerin
• Kellner → Kellnerin
• Friseur → Friseurin

Umlaut changes

Some words also change vowels:

• Arzt → Ärztin
• Rechtsanwalt → Rechtsanwältin
