MYP Year 2
In the second year MYP, we are going to expand the focus with more complex themes and more global issues. Our aim is to reach IBDP (Your final years) with all the knowledge and skills required.
How is MYP Year 2 different from year 1?
MYP English Year 2 differs from Year 1 in terms of complexity, depth of analysis, and expectations for student engagement with texts. Here’s a breakdown of the differences:
- Complexity of Texts:Texts become more complex, with an introduction to more challenging literature, including longer novels, plays, and more sophisticated poetry. Students explore themes, symbolism, and deeper character development.
- Analytical Skills:Students are expected to analyze texts more deeply, considering the author’s purpose, use of literary devices, and the impact of context. There is a greater focus on critical thinking and interpretation.
- Writing Skills:Students are encouraged to write more analytically and persuasively. They learn to structure essays, develop arguments, and use textual evidence to support their points.
- Inquiry and Research:There is an increased emphasis on independent inquiry and research skills. Students might be asked to explore more complex global issues, themes, and connections between texts and real-world contexts.
