Subject: Thank You for the Drive and Beaches
Dear Asokan,
Thank you so much for the lovely drive from Ras Al-Khaimah to Abu Dhabi. I really enjoyed every moment. The beaches we stopped at were so quiet and peaceful. I felt like I was in heaven. The sea looked calm and beautiful everywhere. I loved walking on the sand and watching the waves. It was a perfect break. I also saw the entrance to the Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Power Plant. It was huge! I looked it up online and found amazing photos. I wish tourists could go inside or see it from above.
Thank you again for your time and kindness. I hope we can meet again soon. Maybe next time I’ll stay longer and explore more places with you.

Subject: My Short Visit to UAE
Dear niece,
I just wanted to tell you about my short visit to the UAE. I had only two days, but I saw so many wonderful things. The desert looked endless from the plane. It was a beautiful sight. I also saw the Burj Khalifa — the tallest building in the world! I didn’t go up, but it looked amazing.
In the evening, I took a boat ride at Bur Dubai. The lights and their reflections on the water were magical. I also rode the metro from Al Nahda to Stadium. The view from the train was very different from anything I’ve seen before. I wish I had more time. Two days were not enough. Maybe next time I’ll stay for two weeks!
Thanks again for hosting me in Oman. I had a great time with you too.

Subject: Glad You Enjoyed the Trip
Dear Rithu,
It was great to have you here in the UAE, even for a short time. I’m happy you enjoyed the drive and the beaches. I also liked stopping at those quiet places. I’m glad you saw the Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Power Plant. It’s one of our proudest achievements. Maybe one day they’ll allow visitors inside or give aerial tours. Next time, we can plan a longer trip. There are many more places to see — museums, parks, and even desert safaris. I hope you get two weeks next time!
Let me know when you reach Calicut safely. And do send me some photos from your trip.
Take care and keep in touch,
Asokan

Letter 1: To a Travel Magazine
Dear Editor,
I recently visited the UAE for just two days, and I wanted to share my experience with your readers. Though my visit was short, it was full of surprises and beauty.
I travelled from Ras Al-Khaimah to Abu Dhabi with my friend Asokan. The beaches along the way were quiet and peaceful. The sea looked calm and blue everywhere. It felt like a dream.
One special moment was seeing the entrance to the Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Power Plant. It’s the largest solar plant in the world! I couldn’t go inside, but the photos online were amazing.
I also saw the Burj Khalifa and took a boat ride at Bur Dubai. The lights on the water were magical. Riding the metro gave me a new view of the city.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum was the highlight. I only had half a day there, but I wish I had a week.
I hope more tourists get to enjoy these places. The UAE is full of wonders.
Sincerely, A Grateful Visitor
Letter 2: From Asokan to His Cousin in India
Dear Peter,
I had a short but wonderful visit from a friend last week. They were on their way back from Oman and stayed in the UAE for two days.
We drove from Ras Al-Khaimah to Abu Dhabi. On the way, we stopped at quiet beaches. The sea was calm and beautiful. My friend loved the peaceful feeling.
They were excited to see the entrance to the Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Power Plant. It’s the biggest in the world! Though we couldn’t go inside, they looked up photos online and were amazed.
We also visited Bur Dubai in the evening. The boat ride was magical with all the lights. My friend said it felt like another world.
They saw the Burj Khalifa and rode the metro too. But their favorite place was the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum. They wished they had more time there.
Next time, they plan to stay for two weeks. I hope they come again soon.
Warm regards,
Asokan
Letter 3: To a School Student
Dear Alan,
I want to tell you about a short trip I took to the UAE. I was only there for two days, but I saw many exciting things.
My friend Asokan took me on a long drive from Ras Al-Khaimah to Abu Dhabi. We stopped at beaches that were quiet and peaceful. The sea looked calm and blue. It made me feel happy.
I saw the entrance to the Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Power Plant. It’s the biggest solar plant in the world! I couldn’t go inside, but I saw great pictures online.
I also saw the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. I didn’t go up, but it looked amazing. I took a boat ride at Bur Dubai in the evening. The lights on the water were beautiful.
My favorite place was the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum. It had paintings, sculptures, and old things from many countries.
I hope you get to visit the UAE one day. It’s full of wonders!
Best wishes,
A Curious Traveller
Textual Analysis
What would await an accidental tourist in UAE, I
wondered as I came out of the airport into the open
air. Yes, I was an accidental tourist! I had been to Oman
to stay with my niece. I had just squeezed in two days
on my way back home. But two days were enough to
give me an eyeful and plenty of food for thought. The
dense clouds hovering above the wings of the aircraft
had already given me an eyeful. And the desert which
seemed to stretch endlessly was a spectacle too.
The long drive in my friend Asokan’s car from
Ras Al-Khaimah to Abu Dhabi was a memorable
experience. We never got tired of stopping and
venturing out into the beach. The sea had the same
serene appearance everywhere. One feels a kind of
heavenly bliss at these quiet beaches.
At Sweihan in Abu Dhabi, I caught sight of something
unexpected. It was the entrance to the Noor Abu Dhabi
Solar Power Plant. It is the largest single site solar
power plant in the world, producing a stupendous
1.2 GW of power. Of course, tourists are not allowed
inside. I had to satisfy myself with the magnificent
photographs of the power plant on the net. The plant
has an amazing 3.2 million solar panels. I wish tourists
were given an aerial view of the plant.
I was able to view the imposing Burj Khalifa, the
tallest building in the world. Climbing it all the way
up would take you to the top of the world! Of course,
I could not do it. A boat ride at Bur Dubai late in the
evening was a fascinating experience. The dazzling
lights and their reflections on the creek give you a
feeling of being out of the world. It was only matched
by a ride on the metro from Al Nahda to Stadium.
Watching the landscape from a train is always
entertaining. But here was a landscape totally different
from anything I had ever seen.
But nothing matched the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum,
a marvel by any standards. It houses some of the
world’s most fascinating archaeological remains,
paintings, sculptures and other artefacts. It carries
the name of the famous Louvre Museum in France
on an agreement. It has also rented more than 300
pieces from the Louvre for display. I thought it terribly
unlucky of me to have spent only half a day in the
museum. I would have loved to spend at least a week!
On boarding the flight to Calicut, I wished I had more
time for a visit like this. At least two weeks. Another
time. I might get a chance again. You never know.
