The Occupational English Test (OET) is a specialized English language proficiency exam designed for healthcare professionals who seek to work or study in English-speaking environments. Unlike general English tests, OET focuses on medical and clinical communication, making it highly relevant for doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals. The course typically prepares candidates to understand and use healthcare-specific language in real-world scenarios, ensuring they can communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
OET is divided into four modules: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each module is tailored to reflect situations healthcare professionals encounter daily. For example, the Writing sub-test requires candidates to compose a referral or discharge letter based on case notes, while the Speaking sub-test simulates patient consultations. The Listening and Reading modules assess comprehension of medical texts and audio recordings, such as patient interviews and clinical guidelines. This targeted approach helps candidates build confidence in using English in their professional roles.
