OET READING WITH MELONS – PART C, SUICIDE – 2

Paragraph 2

While the lethal link between suicide and mental disorders (remarkably, alcohol use disorders and depression) is well established in countries high in income, many suicides happen impulsively in moments of crisis with a breakdown in the ability to deal with life stresses, such as financial problems, relationship break-up or chronic pain and illness, tinnitus, one among the many. In addition, experiencing conflict, disaster, violence, abuse, or loss and a sense of isolation are strongly associated with suicidal behaviour. Suicide rates are also high amongst vulnerable groups who experience discrimination, such as refugees and migrants; indigenous peoples; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex (LGBTI) persons; and prisoners. By far the strongest risk factor for suicide is a previous suicide attempt.

Paragraph 2 establishes the fact that:

  1. Mental disorders are the chief triggers for suicide ideation
  2. Suicide is chiefly triggered by impulses
  3. Suicides happen when one cannot deal with a crisis
  4. Suicide trait is inherited
