Melons™ S1 – The “Summary” Method – Bed Bugs

“Summary” method is the 11th Melons Technique. Whether you have learnt the previous techniques or not, you can start with Summary Method. (Want to learn all the methods from our telegram group).

Summary Method is best for Part A Reading only.

How to Summarize?

  1. Read the text you see here (Reading Part A type)
  2. Write down the summary in less than 10 to 15 words.
  3. Use abbreviations, arrows, symbols, such as <, >, ≤, ≥, →, ↓, ↑, ←, etc.
  4. Do not include any information that you already know!
  5. You needn’t always write – you can underline the key words on the question paper.

Look at the 4 texts below (use ‹ and › arrows to navigate through) and write the summary first.

After writing the summary on a paper, solve each question.

Text A

  • Bed bugs » 1000s years
  • BB » X » with DDT (after WW2)
  • BB banned » toxin » envir » but » BB are back (flights ?)
  • Risk ↑ night time guests (HH+HS)
  • BB » shape & size » hiding » tough to X
  • Symptoms (of bites) » red » ⊕ » itchy » arrangement (cluster) » location (face, neck, arms)

Text B

  • Reactions (humans) » skin reactions (from BB’s saliva) » ↓ and ↑ R » delay in R
  • Allergic R » large wheals » subside but last long » bullous eruptions (multiple BB bites) + anaphylaxis + asthmatic R

Attention!

  • You do not take more than 1 minute to summarize a text (after practice).
  • That means you will spend only 4 minutes for preparing the summary of all the 4 texts.
  • You still have 11 minutes to complete the tasks.
  • After summarizing, you can start from question 1.
