There is a major change coming.
Starting from the 2027–28 academic session, the NCERT will introduce entirely new English textbooks for Class 10, replacing the current ones. This is part of a phased rollout under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.
What to Expect in 2027–28
While the exact titles for the Class 10 books haven’t been officially released yet, the changes are expected to mirror those already announced for Class 9 Kaveri. The number of chapters will likely be significantly reduced to focus on deeper understanding rather than rote learning. There will be a greater emphasis on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) and works by Indian authors. For example, the new Class 9 English book, titled Kaveri, features a 50/50 split between Indian and international writers. The new curriculum shifts toward competency-based learning, focusing on real-life application and critical thinking.
There is a possibility that the current two-book system may be consolidated into a single integrated textbook, similar to Kaveri.
